About Us

Drake & Morgan's first venue, the refinery, opened in September 2008 in Southwark in the landmark Blue Fin Building, the second site, the parlour, opened in October 2009 in Canary Wharf and site number three, The Anthologist, opened on Greshman Street in the City in April 2010. Site number five, the drift opened in heron tower on the 4th of july.

Inspiration for The Folly, Drake & Morgan's fourth bar, has come from travelling the world, looking at the most successful venues in the USA and the Middle East "places where service culture is valued highly" and combining the best they have to offer with our own style.

Mystery Diner

Ever fancied yourself as a restaurant critic? Every month we are giving away a meal for two. Become an undercover cop and rate us on the food, wine, service and atmosphere and we'll make sure we listen so we're in tip-top shape! Fill in your details below for a chance to win:

Here are our top tips to becoming the perfect undercover diner:

- Blend in. We recommend you don't wear your fluorescent pink jump suit.

- Don't tell the staff that you're undercover. Try not to shout out, “Don't you know who I am?! That's going into my report!”

- Do a bathroom check. Clean bathrooms are very important.

- Make sure you have a good memory. Scribbling down notes whilst your eating is a big giveaway. It's also not fun for your dining companion.

March Flowers

There are specific flowers which are traditionally given according to the month that a person is born. The March Birth Flower is the Jonquil (aka Daffodil or Narcissus). There are many myths and legends about the origins of this tradition. It is believed that birthday celebrations originated in the Roman Empire During Roman birthday celebrations family and friends offered congratulations and brought gifts. Also the language of flowers developed during the highly conservative period of the Victorian era. The Victorians were strongly restricted by the rules of etiquette when it was considered totally inappropriate to express feelings of love or affection. The "Language of Flowers" therefore evolved when a message was assigned to specific flower. A lover could then send flowers which conveyed a hidden romantic meaning. The hidden message of the Birth Flower, the jonquil, so favoured during the Victorian era was "You are an angel".

Bittersweet salad recipe

Serves four - A kaleidoscope of colour, this salad has the unusual combination of bitter and sweet, crisp and juicy. The bitterness, which comes from the blood orange and pomegranate, is beautifully countered by creaminess of the ricotta.

Ingredients

2 oranges
2 blood oranges
2 heads chicory
2 heads Belgian endive
1kg lambs lettuce
250g ricotta
50g pine nuts, toasted
2 pomegranates
400ml pomegranate juice
200ml olive oil
Pinch of salt and pepper

Method

Begin by removing the pomegranate seeds from the shell with a teaspoon. Then peel and segment the oranges and the blood oranges. Squeeze any remaining juices from the membranes and skin into a bowl to use for the dressing. Add the pomegranate juice, olive oil and juice from the lemon and stir. Tear the salad leaves into large pieces and put into a mixing bowl along with the orange and blood orange segments. Add the ricotta and pine nuts and drizzle with the dressing. Season with salt and pepper.
